Hey, if you ever get the chance you should watch Underbelly which is a true recount of Australia's gangs as well! Lot's of shooting and lots of sex. haha
we do not choose our parents nor our birthplace.

btw "public enemies" which just started showing in the US is pretty good, j edgar hoover is also depicted in it (not as a racist though, more as a person devoted to his career)
[this is good]
I had to watch the one about J. Edgar Hoover. I'm rereading "The Cold 6000," by James Ellroy. It's an historical novel, set between JFK's and RFK's assassinations. One of the big themes is Hoover's complicity in attempts to undermine the civil rights movements. It's scary what that man did in the name of "justice for all."

Thanks for the tip! :-)

JEH was a notoriously sick fuck. It's scary to me that one person could have influenced so many people's lives in such a fucked up way. Plus he was a really disturbed guy. All indications are that he was gay but at the same time he persecuted gay people.

A bit like Hitler being half-Jewish. Talk about self-hatred issues there!

truly scary. and think of what the Cheney era is going to look like in decades to come, with the benefit of hindsight. But really, having lived through the past eight years, I can understand how certain historical things happened, that I just couldn't comprehend before. Like Japanese American internment camps and Hitler and stuff.

must read that book.
It's the sequel to American Tabloid. Read them in order. The first one is about the Mafia and FBI and CIA all working together on Cuba, various crimes, and the JFK assassination. I highly recommend them.

Cheney. Oy. We'll see what comes out after a few decades. I'm sure it will be interesting.
