QotD: My 10 Things
What are 10 things you've done that other people probably haven't?
Submitted by Janette.
1. Kissed a famous comedian (a Japanese comedian called Sanma, and it was for work)
2. Moved almost every year for most of my life.
3. Was an ESL (English as a Second Language) kid. English is my native language though, but I guess I talked funny and was super shy when I moved back from Japan.
4. Taught myself how to ride a unicycle and walk on stilts with the other kids in the neighborhood.
5. When working for a crazy dance agency run by a psychotic woman, I danced for what seemed like a yakuza/truck driver convention, a few weddings in night clubs, a company Christmas party and other random events in crazy outfits including a beaded thong bikini (one time while three months pregnant!), leotard and tights, and other super cheesy costumes.
6. Got a tattoo from a famous tattoo artist. Yakuza looking guys kept coming in and out to get their full body tattoos fixed and expanded. Apparently they come in once a week for twenty minutes a time for years, so the artist can grow the tattoo around the body and make it a more organic creation. That's really different from the usual American way of getting tattoos. You get one thing here, one thing there and you end up looking like a big mess.
7. Had a long string of boyfriends with the same name.
8. Had my heart broken as an 8-year old when an arrogant TV producer told me I was wasting his time at an audition my parents made me go on. I was alone in a room full of uncaring adults, and that's devastating for a child. A lot of kids are never put in a position where the grownups around them aren't protecting them or caring for them. It taught me a lot. I try to be strong enough within myself so that no slick man can look down his sunglasses and disrespect me ever again. Whoa, I didn't realize this experience affected me so much!
9. I've cried while interpreting in front of a crowd of 300 people. And I also cried while interpreting on camera. Both times the subject matter was too intense.
10. Survived a very difficult early life.
Finished!
Oh man this was really really hard. I challenge any of you readers to do this. It will take you much longer than you think it will.
