Feeling a little nostalgic. Here are a few karaoke favorites, dedicated to the ladies who sang them at work. Over and over, and over and over again...
At the time I wanted to pull the plug on the damn machine, but now they make me feel kind of happy.

Dancer Girl and Songbird would duet this one. Two Japanese girls in a Roppongi hostess club singing the theme song to a cartoon based on a Jewish fable. Haha.

Good old Fabiana used to sing this one in Ginza. Fabiana pretended to be part Brazilian, and she looked it because she's tall with big round eyes and darkish skin, plus she had a huge rack. But she's 100% Japanese.

Little Hannah would sing this one a lot. She was a really good singer. I mean most girls were good singers, but she was really good. She'd also do a pretty good version of Radiohead's "Creep" and make it sound like a pop ballad. She was a short Filipina with two kids back in the Philippines that she sort of missed, but didn't at the same time.

Chiba Girl said she performed this song with simple choreography to get an "entertainer" visa for Japan back when she was a teenager. Which means this was back in the mid 80s. She said she was originally part of a performing group, but the other girls could all sing and dance and she kept messing up the dance steps, so she was kicked out. The reasoning was that the whole group might be denied entertainment visas because she sucked so bad. So she did this song on her own, and got the visa anyway.

This one is a Songbird favorite. She loves Whitney Houston. I remember she said that when she first translated the lyrics to the song, she was devastated that her hero, Whitney, would sing a song about having an affair with a married man.

This song was a favorite of my old Ginza mama, and coincidentally the ghetto mama likes this one too. It's fun to sing.
