help my hair!

Spent the whole day dying my hair! Hung out with my good friend Marty the photographer today. We're good friends from way back when. She's American, but she used to live in Japan down the road from me. We always have fun together.

She lives in Brooklyn now, and works for a huge news agency as a photo editor (go Marty! When did all my friends grow up, anyway?). It's been over five years since we lived near each other, but we must have reverted to our old immature ways, because for some reason we peroxided our hair! But it just turned out terribly! So we went back and forth to some place called Ricky's that sells professional grade hair dyes, trying to fix our heads. I now have red hair. Like the color red. But it's kind of blond and orange in parts. I just can't handle it anymore. I look trashy and punky, when I want to look classy! The mama of the club is going to poo her pants when she sees me. I'm gonna do the same after I dream that my hair's back to its beautiful shiny blackness tonight, then I wake up tomorrow and see what my hair looks like again.

Awww, don't be sad. Your inner beauty will make up for it and watch it catch on.

Why don't you go someplace and have it fixed professionally? If you do that, I recommend having them follow that with deep conditioning so your hair won't be too brittle afterwards. My mom did that for me (she owns a salon) after I did the whole dying-my-hair-a-red-stripe and then trying to dye it back on my own, which resulted in yuckiness.

Sorry for the hair woes. :(

If you do go back to Rickys, get some Bumble & bumble Deeeeep conditioner, which works miracles. My hair gets like hay after too much colouring & heat treatment and this makes it feel like hair again.

Oh, the agony of self-dye! Why, oh, why do we never learn?

But girl, remember it's just hair. It will grow out in no-time and you might as well have fun with it. If you're going to a salon, why not try to go for a light brown or whatever, that you were going for, instead of just freaking out and dying it black again? Or you can wear a wig! ;)

How do you peroxid you hair??? Do you use actual peroxide???

You don't use actual peroxide. We used something from the store that was especially for hair. For all I know it might have been real peroxide. You mix it with some cream stuff. And my scalp hurts now. I'll post a picture, but pictures make it look better than it actually is!

You are really having some hair adventures. Good luck with getting it they way you want it. Oh, why are you gonna go dark red?

It will have been real peroxide - it's in the powder and that's what lightens your hair. It comes in different strengths - most shops will only sell weak solutions but if you go to a hairdressers supply shop, you can get the strong stuff.

(I know this because I bleached my black hair white when I was younger. Poor hair)

I think I want to go dark red because it's already red, and I might as well just go all the way. Actually, not quite sure why I want to go dark red. Have you ever gone dark red? I think I'm gonna look like a goth. I already look like one kind of. My friend jokingly handed me some black nail polish and asked me if I wanted to use it. I almost slapped her!

I have 90s grunge hair. 90s hair!!!!

I reckon dark red would look ace! I've had it bright pink and dark red and most shades in between at some point (early 90s!). It can be quite hard to maintain as red has a tendency to go a bit ginger but if it's dark you should be ok.

Okay, since you are an expert, I am definitely going dark red. I'll ask you if I have any more problems. I want to put some dark streaks in it so it doesnt look SO weird when its growing out. Ohhh, stupid me!
