I keep hearing those soldiers in the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 use the term "Oscar Mike". As in, "We are Oscar Mike", "Squad/ fire team is Oscar Mike", and "Tango is Oscar Mike".
I can't believe another tournament is already coming tomorrow. It seems like yesterday when we had our No Koast tournament -- but that was back in October; right now it's November.
This tournament is slated to be our biggest yet. Lots of people are coming from out of town to play Tekken 6, Street Fighter IV, BlazBlue, and Marvel vs Capcom 2. We also have a few other games on the side like Melty Blood, but unless there's a call for them it'll strictly remain on the side. Also, Phlush from SRK pointed out that our tourney got recognized by one of the premier fighting game newsblogs out there: Eventhubs! Man, you can't ask for better advertisement than that!
Some of you might be aware of the East coast vs West coast rivalry that's been brewing for decades in the North American tourney scene. We here have something similar to that in our Kansas City vs Wichita rivalries. I love those guys to death, but when it comes down to it you just want to win, you know? I have a feeling tomorrow will be chock-full of intense, white knuckle matches. Bet on it.
From the looks of things, St. Louis might be on the horizon in the future too, someday..

5 Hit Points: Seth Killian (Super Street Fighter 4)
Poor Seth! Despite being the community manager and a well-known legend in the North American Street Fighter circles, he kinda doesn't know his Capcom lore, lol.

The (not-so literary) quote of the day:
Any experiment of interest in life will be carried out at your own expense.
Earl of Rochester in The Libertine (played by Johnny Depp)
I can think of a few such experiments in my life.
I wore my (no longer very) new perfume, Libertine by Vivienne Westwood today (yes I am obsessed with the brand, shut up). Ryu likes the smell of it (well I think he likes all of my collected fragrances, and makes a point of it sampling them on himself). I think that years from now when he and I are something of the past, the scent will remind me of him, because like Vladimir Nabokov says, "Nothing revives the past so completely as a smell that was once associated with it."
I love involuntary memory, the main theme of Marcel Proust's life work, À la Recherche du Temps Perdu (In Search of Lost Time or, Remembrance of Things Past), of which I trudged through the first two volumes last fall. Involuntary memory is when you experience a memory without the conscious effort of remembering, at the encounter of something like a smell or taste which evokes the past. This sort of memory, like deja vu, is a quite rare, sudden strong feeling.
Which makes me think once again (since I know I have posted this here before) of Fernando Pessoa's quote, "To feel today what one felt yesterday isn't to feel - it's to remember what was felt yesterday, to be today's living corpse of what yesterday was lived and lost."
Why am I being so shallow and quoting other people tonight? No new ideas are coming to mind. Just that I hate/fear loss. And I also hate/fear attachment. A perfect paradox which leaves me often cold and distant in relationships. Ryu told me tonight, for the second time, that he loves me. And I, again, said nothing. No one has ever told me that before, and I think he might just mean it, in as far as his impassioned 21-year-old male mind can conceive it.
Yes, I know I have been AWOL for quite a while - and I can't really guarantee that I will be back to posting regularly anytime soon. In the meantime, here are a couple of photos of some close encounters of the bushwalking kind (from last weekend when my son and I went for an early morning walk before the rest of the bushwalking hordes started scaring everything into hiding).
As well as these creatures, we also saw a swamp wallaby but it was too far away to photograph. I had to get the lizards identified later - they are lace monitors (also known as tree goannas). The education officer from the park also said we were very lucky to see the echidna as they are notoriously shy. I have only ever seen echidnas in the wild three times in my life and twice have been while walking with my son.
Ken Ober died 3 days ago. You can read this article here. He was the actor and the 80's game show of MTV's Remote Control. I wasn't born with the game show.
I was using threats of violence/death and profanity, so I decided to stop being violent, and not use profanity ever again. All this drama shindig, this has to be stopped permanently. You can read this wikiHow article here, also this one. Also, the IP addresses being banned in Essex County permanently, I have decided to move to Union County, I'm not ready to move to the state of Florida yet. However, it's still a follow up to "Taking freedom of speech", which I wrote about that 5 days ago. Plus all that "I can do whatever I want", "I will be dead at age 20", "snakes on a plane", "look, you need to interpret this shindig since [insert something here]", "never tell me what to do" ... who needs that - obsolete!
I better get an iPod so I don't have to listen to music on the computer. Enough being violent. Time to read the bible, get the domain blog, and get a job. I'm going to buy Photoshop in the future... Wonder if I can make my handwriting fonts?
More information after my coryrobertsintokyo.net domain is bought, the WordPress blogging tool installed, and the Japanese-style WordPress theme.
Update: My father got his own laptop yesterday, it's an HP, has Windows 7 (I use Vista, not Windows 7), has the ability to connect to TV, has the remote, etc., but no internet connection. I no longer take photos of screenshots (me doing game playing). Also, I have to respect copyright.
I had a lot of Flickr peeps blocking me from their Flickr because I was stealing their photographs without their permission because of fd's Flickr Toys' "Mosaic Maker", my old Flickr account was deleted without warning because of fd's Flickr Toys' "Mosaic Maker"/venting frustrations/stealing photographs. I had no other choice but to get a job without being violent. So here's this, my friends, I end this 6-year-story, it's time for me to buy the domain blog and get a job...
I'll see you around.
What’s the first thing you do when you log on to your computer every day?
Farmville!! Then Cafe World then Facebook, Vox and Twitter
I think this is my favorite song, ever.
"Jackie Chan made a fighting game?" I know right? I totally thought the same thing. Having really fugly graphics didn't help the game either. It reminded me too much of another certain game with digitized sprites.
But I'm glad we sat down and played it. This game is mad addicting.
For starters, the game echoes along the same lines as Street Fighter. In fact, nearly everything about this game is like a mix of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat! That helps make it really easy to pick up and play. The only glaring difference is the speed at which this games plays at, which is really schizophrenic.
Jumping is just awful in this game. If you jump, you're just asking to get punished big time. Dashing, however, is freaking fast! Having a good ground game is incredibly important -- in fact, having a strong ground game is the line that separates winning from losing.
Nine characters populate the roster. Well, more like seven since Jackie has three different incarnations of himself: drunken master Jackie, spiritual kung fu Jackie, and emperor Jackie (lol). All of the Jackies are different, and only a few members of the cast can actually hang with him. Lau plays like a Ryu / Ken clone, Thorsten looks like a reject from Mortal Kombat, and Mysterious Lion is just cheap. That dude is broke-tier.
Good luck finding this game if you want to play it; the only place I can think of that would even carry it sits in an arcade in Japan. They had tournament matches last year at Mikado, so if you want to see what Fists of Fire looks like at blazing speeds, check those out.
